Cisco 3945 service module
  1. ISR G2 Service Performance Engine (SPE). (replaces network modules). EHWIC slots (replaces HWIC slots). PVDM3 modules The G2 platforms accommodate the following throughput:. 1941/2910.
  2. The device has four slots for service modules, four onboard slots for digital signal processors (DSPs), four WAN interface slots (enhanced high-speed), and one slot for an internal services module. The Cisco 3945 fully integrates its power distribution to all modules that support 802.3af PoE (Power over Ethernet).
  3. Note: The Cisco 3945 router supports two memory slots which has been installed two 512MB memory cards. When upgrading the memory, the same capacity of memory cards must be inserted into the two memory slots in the same time. It doesn't support to use only a single memory slot.

The device has excellent security features, including embedded VPN encryption that is hardware-accelerated, integrated threat control which uses the Cisco's IOS IPS, their IOS zone-based firewall, their IOS firewall, and their IOS Content filtering.

Users' identities are managed with AAA, as well as by a public key infrastructure.

To unify communications for small businesses, the router has a voice DSP module (high-density-packet) that has been optimized to support both voice and video. It provides standards-certified VoiceXML services for browsers, voicemail support, the capability for 100 sessions of Cisco's Unified Border Element, and support for Cisco's Communications Manager Express, as well as the company's Survivable Remote Site Telephony.

The Cisco 3945 router offers branch offices opportunities for media collaboration, yet is cost effective for small companies who need to watch their bottom line.

The device has Gigabit Ethernet (GigE), which means that it can transmit Ethernet frames at a speed of one gigabit per second.

Cisco ended the sales of new 3945 routers in February 2013. It plans to cut off support for the device on February 28, 2018. Although there is no replacement for the device, the company encourages its customers to migrate to one of Cisco's UCS E-Series Server blades if possible.
